Wine tasting is a process with a dual purpose. It is intended that the taster learn and enjoy the wine to the fullest and, on the other hand, it is decisive in knowing the optimal moment when it will be ready for consumption.
The purpose of the tasting is to provide expert tasters who carry out professional sensory tests with a suitable environment under standards that facilitate work, and also ensure that the results can be repeated if they are carried out in the same way.
In this article, we will look into all that should be taken into account with regards to wine tasting.
- The Tasting Room
The tasting room is a place that must meet the necessary and optimal conditions so that nothing interferes with the wine tasting. The tasting is a very sensitive process and, therefore, a series of parameters must be met to guarantee its development at all times.
- The Environment
The environment must be calm since it requires the absolute concentration of the taster. The home wine room design must be well ventilated to ensure the absence of previous bad odors and constant aeration. This aeration mustn’t carry with it the entrance of odors from outside. The taster’s concentration must be guaranteed.
- The Light
The room should have the right amount of light, neither excessive nor limited. The walls and colors that surround the tasting stage must be clear and neutral, so as not to hinder the process. It is better to be able to control artificial light than to use excess natural light.
- Temperature
Wine must be served at a suitable temperature. On the temperature of the wine, the tasting room must be at an average temperature of 20ºC.
- Humidity
It is not good that the room has excessive humidity. Still, it is worse that the environment is very dry since the organoleptic sensations, mainly the aromas, are perceived worse if the environment is very dry.
