Cleaning the bathroom is complicated, especially when you have a thousand other things to do. All too often, we do a once over cleaning and that’s it. Problem is, a quick clean up doesn’t do the trick and often just makes the bathroom look grimier.
What you really need is a comprehensive bathroom cleaning checklist and we at Dallas Maids have put an easy to follow guide together for you. Deep cleaning doesn’t have to take all day, you just have to stay on top of the little cleaning projects and break up the chores into daily, weekly and monthly cleaning tasks.
When you finish your morning bathroom routine, return your cosmetics, hair stuff, and toiletries to their respective spaces. If you don’t have places to store them, look into storage ideas for your bathroom. Get into the habit of decluttering as it will make your bathroom look better.
Pick Up The Towels
It is easy to drop the towel on the floor but it looks really terrible. Hanging it up only takes a few seconds and will keep you from having mold and mildew.
Wipe the Countertops
Keep countertops clutter free so you can clean them easily. Use a good tile cleaner to wipe down the counter.
This is a job you should do every couple of days because it is one of the most used items in your bathroom. Dust of the outer parts of the toilet (the tank and the lid). Use a bleach cleaner to sanitize and clean all other areas.
Spray the sink and faucet areas with a bathroom surface cleaner or a mixture of vinegar-water solution in a spray bottle. Allow the sprayed areas to sit for about 10 minutes. Then use a wipe or paper towel to clean the area. Be sure to get the areas behind the faucet dials, knobs, nooks and crannies. Finish with the upper faucet where the toothpaste gunk can hang on.
Sanitize Drain Areas
Check shower drains as you run water in the morning. If the water is draining slowly, chances are there are hair obstructions in the drain. Unclog the drain using the end of a wire hanger. Try running vinegar and hot water down the drain to clean the drain out well.
Clean The Floors
The last thing you need to do is clean up the bathroom floor by vacuuming and mopping. Pick up loose dirt with the vacuum and then mop with soapy water.
Here are a few things you need to do once a month.
Use a glass cleaner to clean mirrors and windows. Use lint free wipes to clean the glass with circular motions.
Wash the Shower and Tub
Clean the area of shampoo and soap. Use a commercial bathroom scrub cleaner or use equal parts of vinegar and dish soap. Spray the area from top to bottom and let soak for 5 to 10 minutes. Scrub with a bathroom brush. Rinse with warm water and use a squeegee to get rid of any water marks.
Remove Shower Curtain and Wash
The shower curtain can hold mold and mildew because of the moisture in this room. Remove curtains and liner and put them in the washing machine once or twice a month. While they are washing, wipe off the rod and rings.
Wash Rugs and Mats
Wash rugs and mats once or twice a month. These items attract dust and dirt, so just place them in the washing machine and add a little soap to get them clean again.
There are also a few seasonal things you should do in the bathroom. Once every couple of months you want to:
- Wash out the trash cans
- Seal countertop surfaces with a commercial sealer
- Organize the medicine cabinet
- Dust baseboards
- Clean the Exhaust fans
Dallas Maids helps keep bathrooms organized and helps everyone keep the bathroom clean with this complete list to follow. Try printing it out and attaching it to the inside of the cabinet door. This way you and everyone else knows what is needed to keep things clean.
