Beastie Boys Adam Yauch Dead At Age 47

Family, friends, fans and activists are mourning the loss of Beastie Boys’ Adam Yauch. Yauch passed away today after a several year battle with cancer. He is remembered both as a hip hop pioneer and as a preeminent activist for the Tibetan liberation movement. Youch, aka “MCA”, was propelled to hip hop stardom in 1984 with the release of the Beastie Boys hit record, License To Ill. The Beastie Boys went on to sell over 22 million albums in the U.S. and over 40 million worldwide in a career that spanned three decades. In 1994, Youch established the Milarepa Fund to help raise awareness and generate funds for the...

Using his voice as a weapon in the war for animal rights, his as-yet-untitled debut album drops this summer and features songs written from the points of view of animals. IFEEL was inspired to write this album after working with children who lived in group homes. He writes on this “I witnessed the severity of emotional pain and suffering and helped the young generation express their pain and heal though hip-hop music–by running a music therapy program for abused children. Bad Year to be a Bad Guy Dec31

Bad Year to be a Bad Guy

Opinion – As 2011 comes to a close it is perhaps time to reflect on the progress the world has made and, inevitably, what still must be done. Looking at the year in review, the Arab Spring is without a doubt the most pivotal movement to be witnessed in decades. There is no argument that its consequences, both good and bad, will be felt for many years. The Arab Spring has seen citizens stand up against some of the world’s most heinous dictators; they have risked their lives, and the lives of their families, to offer opposition in countries where criticism of the regime has meant torture and death. Guy Fawkes Day!

Social Issues – Since his death in 1605, Great Britain has kept the memory of Guy Fawkes alive by celebrating “Guy Fawkes Day” (and its post-meridian counterpart “Bonfire Night”). But who, exactly, is this masked marauder and why has the OWS movement adopted his mask for its operation 400 years after his death? Apparently the man behind the mask was considered a traitor to his country and was imprisoned in the Tower of London for attempting to blow up the House of Parliament in order to bring down England’s Protestant monarchy and restore Catholicism to England. Oh–and there was that little rumor...
