Social Issues – British discount clothing store “Madhouse” has been put through the wringer after recently releasing a pair of chinos with some 1950s instructions on how to launder them. After the proper washing instructions the label reads, in all CAPS no less, “OR – GET YOUR WOMAN TO DO IT! IT’S HER JOB!”

The Twitter community has of course reacted, with some finding it insulting and others taking it as a humorous piece of political incorrectness. One Twitter user wrote that his girlfriend would find it funny and not offensive, while Holly Combe of TheFWord.org.uk wrote “I think it’s a case of the usual double irony, where we have to pretend something is ironic when the undercurrent of the joke actually serves to put us in our place and persuade us not to offer any critique if we want to be seen to ‘have a sense of humour.’”

Still, others think “Madhouse” is trying to get some a gratis publicity through the controversial statement. Recently they were bought by an investor because the chain was about to close and lose 700 employees.

However, it appears men are not the only ones guilty of sexism. Forever 21 and JCPenney recently released women’s tee-shirts with “Allergic to Algebra” and “I’m too pretty to do homework, so my brother does it for me,” respectively. Both tee-shirts flew off of shelves – presumably to the garbage.
