Social Issues – In the news of the insufferable, Sarah Burge, a woman nicknamed the “Human Barbie” has recently gifted her daughter a particularly thoughtful Christmas present: an $11,000 gift voucher for liposuction. Her 7 year old daughter is, apparently, appreciative of this. The present was revealed in an interview with the British magazine Closer.
Befitting of an extreme episode of Toddlers & Tiaras, this tailspin into vanity is, according to the mother, wholly appropriate. She argues that her gift is befitting of the current climate, where “girls don’t want Snow White and Cinderella….” and that she is “making her [daughter's] dreams come true.”
Burge herself has earned her nickname for a surgery count into the hundreds. Having become a celebrity of sorts for her absurdity, she embraces the image and feels it’s right for her daughter. Last year, her Christmas gift was a voucher for a breast augmentation which her daughter can cash in when she comes of age.
Burge feels it is “great” that one can “change [his or herself] if one chooses.” While the debate may continue as to how moral or appropriate it is for an adult to alter his or her own looks, the long-term effects of living in “Human Barbie’s” dream home certainly aren’t going to be good.
