Virgin Gives Condoms

Social Issues – World Aids Day on December 1st was all about wearing red, and no one knows red better than Richard Branson’s Virgin brand. Ironically enough, Virgin has teamed up with a condom company to distribute 100,000 free condoms to clinics in South Africa. I guess they don’t take that Virgin label too seriously.

It is estimated that 20% of the Bushbuckridge area’s population in the Mpumalanga province in South Africa is HIV positive. South Africa is actually believed to have the highest number of people with HIV/AIDS in the entire world so safe sex is of the utmost importance.

Virgin Unite, the nonprofit organization run by the Virgin Group, has teamed up with ONE condoms to distribute the prophylactics to Bhubezi and Ndlovu clinics in the Mpumalanga province.

Jean Oelwang, CEO of Virgin Unite told Look to the Stars “Everyone has the right to basic healthcare. We are very pleased to be working with the One Foundation who have to generously donated the 100,000 condoms to help stop the spread of HIV and AIDS. Thanks also to the wonderful doctors and healthcare professionals working in Bhubezi and Ndlovu clinics in South Africa who have dedicated their lives to keeping people healthy. I’m sure these condoms will be a welcome gift”.

The Bhubezi clinics were actually launched by Virgin Unite in correspondence with the U.S. and South African Government, Anglo-American Thermal Coal and the Ndlovu Care Group, and local communities.
