Occupy Foreclosures
Occupy Atlanta – Occupy protesters recently helped veteran Brigitte Walker and her girlfriend Ajai Craig save their home from foreclosure by demanding that JP Morgan Chase modify their mortgage.
Within one week after the OWS movement set up camp at Walker’s home, the financial giant agreed to modify her mortgage. This move ultimately saves Walker and her partner a few hundred dollars each month, not to mention it gives them relief from the nightmare of their pending eviction which was scheduled for January 3.
“I strongly believe Occupy Atlanta accelerated the process and helped save my home […] If it had not been for them standing up, I probably wouldn’t be having this happy ending,” Walker stated.
Tim Franzen, an organizer with Occupy Atlanta, believes that Walker’s compelling story is what gave them the edge at the bargaining table with Chase.
“I think that’s one of the things that drew us to her home — just very clear injustice on a woman who had literally been injured in one of our wars and suffered legitimate hardship. When Chase suffered their hardship, they were just given all this money.”
OWS protesters are beginning to make headway in their fight to take back foreclosed homes.
