Human Rights – In a speech to the House of Representatives about the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA), Rep. Gwen Moore (D-WI) reminded her colleagues that the VAWA is not a partisan issue and, in fact, it is crucial in protecting all women regardless of “color, creed, or sexual orientation.”
During her speech Moore recounted a powerful personal story of her own childhood rape, saying “This is what American women are facing.”
Republicans continue to block the re-authorization of the VAWA because of new additions that, among other things, affords undocumented immigrants and women in same-sex relationships the same protection as others.
