Human rights organization Amnesty International has hit 50 years of age. To celebrate, it is releasing a compilation of Bob Dylan songs covered by a diverse range of artists.
The compilation, Chimes of Freedom, features an absurd variety of acts, from Queens of the Stone Age, Silversun Pickups, Raphael Saadiq, and Billy Bragg, to contemporaries of Dylan, like Kris Kristofferson and Joan Baez. Oh, and, of course, Ke$ha.
Some will be great, some will surely be err, interesting, but the cause is incontestably good, and if you could never quite adjust to Bob Dylan’s wonderfully divisive voice, you may find some unexpected jams.
Amnesty International is a non-governmental organization dedicated to ensuring human rights worldwide. The organization is most active with those who are unjustly imprisoned, like Chinese political activist Liu Xiaobo, a Nobel Peace Laureate imprisoned for encouraging political reform.
Amnesty International has over 3 million supporters, including many of the artists included on the tribute compilation, which can be ordered from Amnesty International itself, as well as iTunes and Amazon.
