Party for a Cause

Celebrity Charities – Everyone in Hollywood is buzzing about the Oscars, and this year Charitybuzz.com is auctioning off two tickets to Vanity Fair’s Oscar party to the highest bidder. The auction price is currently sitting at $25,000. Proceeds of this auction will go to Larchmont Charter School, a parent-initiated, tuition-free, and public elementary school in Los Angeles, California.

Past attendees of the VF party include Madonna, Anne Hathaway, Colin Firth, Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Quentin Tarantino, Tom Hanks, Elton John, Hilary Swank, and Natalie Portman.

Only 500 people are invited to the swank soiree, according to Graydon Carter, Vanity Fair’s editor. “Let’s just say that a few weeks before the party, the staff of Vanity Fair is everyone’s best friend,” he said in an e-mail to Bloomberg.

Charitybuzz.com also had two tickets for the Weinstein brothers’ pre-Oscar party. The auction closed recently with a bid of over $8,200; proceeds went to Hamilton College in New York.

Elton John’s annual AIDS Foundation Academy Awards gala will also be taking place on Oscar weekend and tickets are currently running $3,500 a head. Last year the gala raised nearly $4 million for AIDS research.
