Morrissey For Peta

Celebrity Charities – Nearly 27 years after British rockers The Smiths released their number one album Meat Is Murder, PETA UK has named ex-frontman Morrissey its Person of the Year for 2011.

After The Smiths broke up in 1987, Morrissey embarked on a successful solo career that also included championing animal rights issues on tour around the world.

According to PETA UK’s website, on Morrissey’s most recent European tour, he set up tables with animal rights literature and vegetarian/vegan starter kits. He and his band mates wore t-shirts with environmental messages and played the “Meet Your Meat” PETA UA promotional video between sets.

Additionally, he even convinced a Belgian music festival not to serve meat products the day he performed.

Said PETA UK, “Never one to hold back, Morrissey has fearlessly mouthed off about the meat trade and helped promote kindness to animals worldwide in bold ways.”
