Escaping The Zoo

Animal Issues – There’s something terrorizing Tokyo, and no — it’s not Godzilla this time. Call Mr. Popper because there is a Humboldt penguin on the loose!

The one year old penguin “left the building” at Tokyo Sea Life Park on approximately Sunday March 4 when a director of a nearby zoo e-mailed a photo of the penguin bathing in the Kyu-Edo river. To add insult to injury, he actually appeared to be waving at the camera.

The penguin on the lam is reported to travel “at a tremendous speed” when he’s in the water, which appears to be most of the time, making returning the penguin to captivity quite the chore. Officials at the park are not sure yet how he escaped. There is reported to be a 6 foot (2 meter) net surrounding the aquarium which would be impossible for a penguin to climb over. Apparently that theory needs to be rethought.

Maybe Popper isn’t the one to call. William Wallace is probably a better bet.

The escaped penguin was seen near Tokyo Bay, if you spot him….don’t alert authorities. VIVA LA FREEDOM!!
