Caboodle Ranch Charged With Animal Abuse

Animal Rights – Craig Grant, founder and operator Caboodle Ranch, Inc. in Madison County, Florida, is being charged with animal cruelty following the seizure of the 500 cats found living in nightmarish conditions at the self-proclaimed “cat sanctuary.”

While masquerading as a feline utopia that gave cats “everything they will ever need to live a happy healthy life” the “ranch” was proven by a PETA investigation to be a one-man show that allowed the felines to live in abject filth and chronic neglect.

PETA’s investigation showed that the “ranch,” (seriously, quotation marks can not be used enough to describe this “organization”), consisted of a series of moldy trailers reeking of ammonia and impossible-to-sanitize wooden sheds.

The investigation also uncovered that Grant routinely DENIED veterinary care for the rampant upper-respiratory infections and other ailments – even when concerns about very specific ailments in individual cats were brought forth.

One such cat was Lilly, whose iris protruded through a ruptured cornea. Grant allowed Lilly to suffer for months until she eventually lost vision in her injured eye before eventually dying on Jan. 31, 2012.

Lilly was not the only cat to suffer a miserable and entirely preventable death at the hands of Grant’s policies, as Grant not only failed to treat the cats but also allowed those with contagious diseases such as FIV and leukemia to roam freely.

To get away with these atrocities, Grant regularly would merely rub the cats’ faces with Clorox wipes and hide those in dire need of medical care from visitors.

Tragically, stories such as this might become commonplace in Florida if an ironically titled and dangerous bill makes its way through the Florida legislature. Under the new “Animal Rescue Act,” animal shelters would be forced to hand over animals to self-proclaimed, unregulated “rescues” such as Caboodle.
